Sugar, Scoops & Sprinkles: The Best Dessert Shops in Arizona

Arizona is full of surprises, and its dessert scene might be the sweetest one. The viral dot cakes have made their way to the Valley, and that’s just one reason to explore it. After a long day of exploring or simply looking for the perfect excuse to get out and wander, these are the spots worth the drive, worth the wait, and absolutely worth every bite.

JL Patisserie

Where: 7342 E Shea Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ | 4700 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ

Founded by Belgian pastry chef Jenna Leurquin, trained at Le Cordon Bleu Paris and nominated for a James Beard Award in 2023, JL Patisserie brings genuine European craftsmanship to the Valley across multiple locations. The cases are stocked with flaky croissants, pistachio chocolate twists, cinnamon rolls, macarons, and custom cakes, all made with the kind of precision you’d expect from someone who grew up eating pastry in Belgium and refined it in Paris. Gluten-free options are available, and the baguettes are made with a natural starter called “Mother”, a detail that tells you everything about how seriously Jenna takes her craft.

Sablé Boulangerie

Where: 228 N Gilbert Rd, Gilbert, AZ

Sablé Boulangerie is the passion project of chef William Porter, a Gilbert native who trained in Paris and cooked at The Burj Al Arab in Dubai before returning home to open a hyper-focused pastry lab beside Downtown Gilbert’s Liberty Market. Everything is made from scratch each morning using imported French flour, Valrhona chocolate, and butter from Lyon, with the Pain Au Chocolat standing as his signature, the hardest pastry he makes, and, by most accounts, the reason to come. Open Wednesday–Sunday from 8 am until sold out, so arrive early.

Chacónne Pâtisserie

Where: 8119 E Roosevelt St, Scottsdale, AZ | 821 N 4th St, Ste 120, Phoenix, AZ

A James Beard Award semifinalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef, Chef Mark Chacón trained at Tartine, Chez Panisse, and Noma before bringing world-class technique to Scottsdale with a style rooted in Arizona’s seasons. Long-lamination croissants, naturally fermented doughs, and rotating specials like horchata cakes, maple-bourbon pecan tarts, and Arizona citrus sweets make every visit feel different, and the fact that they’re open daily until 9 pm makes it one of the rare dessert spots that works just as well after dinner as it does in the morning.

Allora Gelato

Where: 6990 E Shea Blvd, Suite 106, Scottsdale, AZ

Born from a trip to Capri in 2014, Allora Gelato brings an authentic Italian gelato experience to Scottsdale using no artificial colorants, synthetic flavors, or shortcuts, just Belgian chocolate, Sicilian pistachios, Arizona honey, and sun-ripened figs from Croatia, among other thoughtfully sourced ingredients. Flavors rotate seasonally and range from the unexpected (Olive Oil & Rosemary, Mesquite Honey Lavender) to the deeply satisfying (Bourbon Salted Caramel, Mexican Coffee), all served in freshly made gluten-free waffle cones. Whether you’re stopping by after dinner or cooling off on a summer afternoon, it’s one of Scottsdale’s standout spots for a sweet treat.

The Sicilian Baker

Where: 15530 N Tatum Blvd #140, Phoenix, AZ | 9780 W Northern Ave, Suite 1100 , Peoria, AZ | 3151 W Frye Rd, Chandler, AZ

Home to Arizona’s first build-your-own cannoli bar, The Sicilian Baker lets you choose your size (including a legendary 12-inch shell), pick from shells like dark chocolate or pistachio, then select from 12 rotating sweet ricotta cream flavors, traditional ricotta, espresso, Biscoff, Nutella, and more, all assembled in an open exhibition kitchen. Beyond the cannoli bar, the cases are filled with sfogliatelle, lobster tails, tiramisu, fresh gelato, and Italian cookies baked daily. Pro tip: weekday happy hour means $1 mini cannolis and $2 gelato.

Sweet Republic

Where: 9160 E Shea Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ | 3712 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ | 410 N Scottsdale Rd Suite 105, Tempe, AZ | 6054 N 16th St, Phoenix, AZ

Since 2008, Sweet Republic has been making small-batch, all-natural artisan ice cream from Arizona dairy using every topping, caramel, hot fudge, marshmallows, and waffle cones, crafted entirely in-house. Their flavors range from the beloved salted butter caramel swirl to more adventurous offerings like basil lime and honey blue cheese, earning national recognition, including a feature on Food Network where Alton Brown singled out their Toffee Banofi Sundae. Nothing here comes from a tub, and it shows in every scoop.

Sugar Bowl Ice Cream Parlor

Where: 4005 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ

Open since Christmas Eve 1958, the Sugar Bowl is Scottsdale’s original ice cream parlor and a genuine Arizona landmark, with pink upholstered booths, a classic soda fountain, spectacular sundaes, and extra-luscious malts served with the glass lined in your choice of hot fudge or caramel sauce. It was the first family-friendly restaurant in Scottsdale, was famously referenced in the Family Circus comic strip, and has changed very little over the decades, which is exactly the point. Some things don’t need to be reimagined; they just need to keep showing up.

Soda Jerk Co. Milkshake Bar

Where: 5350 E High St, Suite 109, Phoenix, AZ

Founded by Disney veterans Kylee and Dustin Smith, Soda Jerk Co. is a retro-inspired milkshake bar at High Street in north Phoenix serving outrageous, handcrafted shakes stacked with full-sized candy bars, cookies, cotton candy, and more, the kind of dessert that’s equal parts delicious and completely over the top. Recipes draw from turn-of-the-century soda jerk traditions, Mom’s seasonal baking, and a whole lot of creativity, with classic sundaes and floats also on the menu for those who prefer something a little more low-key. Keep an eye out for the hidden freezer door; rumor has it that something called the Nemesis Club is on the other side.

Snowy Village

Where: 138 S Dobson Rd, Suite 106, Mesa, AZ

Tucked inside Mesa’s Mekong Plaza, Snowy Village is the Valley’s go-to destination for Korean milk shaved ice, and it’s exactly the kind of find that makes you feel like a local. Unlike traditional shaved ice, Snowy Village’s snow base is crafted from milk, resulting in something impossibly light, fine, and subtly sweet that melts the moment it hits your tongue. Piled high with toppings like fresh mango, sweet red beans, chewy mochi, and condensed milk, each bowl is a full experience, and the fish-shaped Croffles (a buttery croissant-waffle hybrid) are reason enough to come back a second time.

Arizona’s Take on the Viral Dot Cake Trend

By now you’ve probably seen them on TikTok and Instagram: tiny individual cake cups blanketed in a perfect layer of rainbow nonpareils, with that signature satisfying crunch when a spoon breaks through. The dot cake originated at The Dotcakes, a bakery in Roslyn, New York, whose single-serve “Dotcups” went viral in May 2026, sparking a nationwide craze. The good news? You don’t need to go all the way to the East Coast to try it. Arizona has its own local versions, and they’re worth every sprinkle.

The Flour Box

Where: 16650 E Elgin St, Gilbert, AZ

The Flour Box is a Gilbert bakery that has quickly earned a devoted following for its dot cakes, and it’s easy to see why. Their version features a funfetti base that delivers a flavor and texture fans describe as reminiscent of animal crackers, in the best possible way, with a rich chocolate option for those who lean that direction. Availability moves fast, so check their Instagram (@theflourboxaz) before making the trip and claim yours before someone else does.

Dos Chris’ Bakery & Charcuterie Co.

Where: 6007 N 16th St, Phoenix, AZ

An Uptown Phoenix gem and one of Yelp and Entrepreneur Magazine’s favorite Mom & Pop shops in America, Dos Chris’ is a bakery whose motto, “Leave a little sparkle wherever you go,” was practically written for this moment. Their dot cake comes in a signature Pridefetti rainbow sprinkle vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream, topped with colorful nonpareils, plus a gluten-friendly caramel cake option. Both are served in cups with sturdy lids, easy to take on the go, and while you’re there, the cupcakes (topped with entire slices of cake, mini cookies, candy, and fruit) and charcuterie boards make it worth staying a while.

La La Land Kind Café

Where: 15215 N Kierland Blvd #190, Scottsdale, AZ | 5039 N 44th St, Phoenix, AZ

La La Land Kind Café, the Dallas-born chain known for sunshine-yellow cups, banana foam lattes, and a mission to hire young adults aging out of foster care, made its Arizona debut at Kierland Commons in early 2026 and has already expanded to a second Valley location. While it’s primarily a coffee shop, the current reason to visit is the dot cake lineup: allergy-friendly, rainbow-sprinkled sprinkle cakes and iced sprinkle lattes (in espresso or matcha) that are as photogenic as they are delicious. It’s a joyful, sweet pit stop.
