Now in its 15th year, the Arizona Black Rodeo brings five days of bull riding, steer wrestling, team roping, and mutton bustin’ for the kids to Scottsdale’s WestWorld. Beyond the competition, the event celebrates Black cowboy and cowgirl history with a grand entry parade, live DJ sets, and an atmosphere that’s equal parts rodeo tradition and celebration. It’s a family-friendly must if you’re looking for something authentically Arizonan to build your weekend around.
Flashlight Nights at Desert Botanical Garden
When: September 5, 2026
Where: 1201 N Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, AZ
The desert looks completely different after dark. Grab a flashlight, wander the garden’s trails, peer through telescopes, and get up close with nocturnal desert creatures at this after-hours event in Phoenix. The activities rotate weekly, so no two visits are quite the same.
That same weekend, the Garden is also hosting Saguaro & Skate, a three-day outdoor roller-disco sendoff to summer. A pop-up roller rink from the Zoni Girls takes over the Garden for skating under the lights, live music, and food, alongside the Desert Oasis Garden After Dark lit up for the occasion.

One of the biggest concerts of Labor Day weekend, Zach Bryan’s With Heaven On Tour brings an unforgettable night of live country music to State Farm Stadium. Joined by special guests MJ Lenderman and Fey Fili, the show kicks off at 7:00 PM, with doors opening at 5:30 PM.
Grape Train Escape at Verde Canyon Railroad
When: September 5, 2026
Where: 300 N Broadway, Clarkdale, AZ
For a completely different pace, take the scenic route north to the Verde Canyon Railroad for its Grape Train Escape upgrade. Sip Arizona and international wines as the train winds through red rock canyon scenery into the sunset, with first-class seating, a charcuterie spread, and a sparkling toast included.
